All-time App Store Ranking: Facebook Most Downloaded, Candy Crush Most Played

Short Bytes: Facebook has become the most downloaded and top iOS app since its launch in 2008 and continues to reign with the millions of downloads each month. Candy Crush, on the other hand, has become the most popular and downloaded game in just 3 years.

There are thousands of mobile applications in the app store, but there are only a few that become the most popular and used extensively worldwide. App Annie, the app store analytics firm has prepared lists of the most popular and the most profitable iOS applications of all time.

Well, the top position in the most downloaded app of all time goes toFacebook, no surprises, we know. In fact, the social media is so addictive and popular (obviously), that the second most downloaded iOS app is again of Facebook, its app Messenger.

App Annie reports that they have studied the data dating back to July 2010 to July 2015. Check out the lists of the most downloaded top iOS apps of all times.

If you look carefully, you will see that most of the top downloaded iOS apps are the messenger apps which continue to get received with the same enthusiasm and downloaded in millions each month even after years of their launch.

Now comes my favorite list, the top downloaded mobile games of all times. King’s Candy Crush Saga is the most played game since its launch in November 2012, followed by Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds.

Now there is one list of the most popular apps and then there is this list of top earning apps. When it comes to revenue earning, the list is entirely different. It is dominated by the entertainment and dating apps. The popular messenger apps are nowhere in the list.

Pandora is the highest grossing iOS app, followed by LINE and the dating app Zoosk.

The worldwide top revenue grossing games in the iOS app store shows similar patterns. Only the Clash of Clans and Candy Crush Saga managed to make both the lists, with Clash of Clans gaining the top spot, followed by Candy Crush.
